Artist statement
The simple act of holding a piece of clay takes me back to my childhood. I could often be found digging pink clay, placing it on a board or rock on the beach, and creating whatever my mind saw in that simple ball fresh from the ground. Each time I begin to work I am able to connect with nature and create my artwork. My work is inspired by simple details of the world around me--the shape that trees take as they grow, the veins in leaves, the bark of trees, the way roots intertwine and form a graceful dance as they slowly grow under our feet.
